Belorusneft, Belarus’ state-run oil company, recently won the 2014 best seismic project award from the Ecuadoran journal “The Oil & Gas Year” for its oil exploration project in Ecuador’s eastern oil field.

The project, which will include 3D seismic exploration works covering a 1,500-square-kilometer area, will be conducted in Yasuni National Park territory. The park, which is an important biological reserve, is also home to two indigenous isolated tribes, BelTA reports.

Belorusneft’s willingness to take the environmental requirements into consideration were cited as a factor in naming the company the winner of the award.

“The Oil & Gas Year” is a branch of the “Oil & Gas Journal” (OGJ), published in the U.S. since 1902. The journal’s extensive database–collected and processed by the OGJ research center–is considered official data in many nations, according to BelTA.
